The Day My World Wasn’t Silent
Have you ever had something that you have wanted so badly, but you would never ever be able to get it? I have.
But if you give it a chance and try with every effort, you’ll never know what you’d get.
I try to look for ways to regain my hearing again, and I found this doctor, Doctor ________, the one who did my cochlear surgery. On a warm September day my Mom, Dad, Grandma, my sister Emma, and I piled into our family’s old, green minivan. We drove to Cincinnati to the Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
We played the sign game on the way there. We had to find signs that began with each corresponding letter of the alphabet. We always seemed to get stuck on the letter “X”. I finally saw the blue, metallic sign, letting me know we were finally at our destination. It felt like almost a month before we found a place to park.
“The elevator seems to be moving as slow as a turtle today”, I thought to myself. We finally arrived at the second floor, and then we waited in the waiting room forever. I remember thinking how funny it was that we were in the “patient’s” waiting room, which required me to have “patience”. I was very anxious for the Cochlear Implant Audiologist to call my name.
